OKX Futures — Overview 2026

OKX is the world's second-largest crypto derivatives exchange by open interest, processing over $8 billion in futures volume daily. Founded in 2017, OKX has consistently ranked alongside Binance and Bybit as one of the top three platforms for perpetual swap and futures trading.
What makes OKX stand out from the pack: 500+ futures pairs (the widest selection in the industry), a built-in spread trading product you won't find anywhere else, and an integrated DEX with on-chain perpetuals — all inside the same Unified Account.

OKX Perpetual Swaps — Products & Structure
OKX offers four types of futures derivatives, all accessible from the Unified Account:
- USDT-Margined Perpetuals (Linear): Settled in USDT. The most liquid product on OKX — where 80%+ of trading volume happens. BTC, ETH, and 490+ altcoins available.
- USDC-Margined Perpetuals: Settled in USDC. Fewer pairs than USDT but growing. OKX and Bybit are the two main exchanges offering USDC perps at scale.
- Coin-Margined Perpetuals (Inverse): Settled in the underlying coin (e.g., margin and PnL in BTC for BTCUSD perp). Useful for miners who hold BTC and don’t want USDT exposure.
- Spread Trading: Unique to OKX — lets you simultaneously trade the price difference between two contracts (e.g., quarterly vs. perpetual). Lower-risk, more complex strategies.
OKX Unified Account — What's Included
Cross-Margin Efficiency
Unrealized PnL from spot positions counts as margin for futures. A $10,000 BTC spot position can back a $2,000 futures position without tying up extra capital.
OKX DEX Integration
Native on-chain perpetuals accessible from the same interface as CEX perpetuals. Switch between centralized and decentralized execution without leaving the app.
Spread Trading
Trade the basis between spot and futures contracts. Used by arbitrageurs and sophisticated traders to capture carry yield or hedge delivery exposure.
Grid & Signal Bots
Built-in automated bots with market-wide backtesting. Significantly more backtesting depth than Bybit’s equivalent bots.
OKX Leverage — Tiers & Margin Modes
OKX supports up to 100x leverage on BTC and ETH. Altcoin leverage ranges from 5x to 50x depending on the asset. Leverage is adjustable per position — you can run 3x on one trade and 20x on another within the same Unified Account.
OKX offers three margin modes — the standard Isolated and Cross modes, plus an advanced Portfolio Margin Mode that uses risk-based netting across all positions. Portfolio Margin on OKX is regarded as more sophisticated than Bybit's equivalent.
Max Leverage by Asset — OKX 2026
Isolated Margin
Each position uses its own margin. Liquidation of one trade doesn’t affect your other positions.
Best for: Beginners, directional trades with a defined risk budget
Cross Margin
All open positions share your total account balance. Lower liquidation chance on individual positions, but total balance is at risk.
Best for: Experienced traders running hedged portfolios
Portfolio Margin
Risk-based margin calculation that offsets correlated positions. Most capital-efficient for multi-leg strategies.
Best for: Professional traders with large multi-asset positions
OKX Futures Fees 2026 — Full Breakdown
OKX standard futures fees are 0.020% maker / 0.050% taker. This is identical maker fee to Bybit but a 5% cheaper taker fee (0.050% vs 0.055%). For traders who regularly use market orders, OKX's taker fee advantage adds up meaningfully over thousands of trades.

OKX-Exclusive Features You Won't Find Elsewhere
Spread Trading — Trade the Basis
OKX is the only major exchange with a native spread trading product. You trade the price difference between two contracts simultaneously — e.g., BTC quarterly futures minus BTC perpetual. Used for calendar spread arbitrage, carry trades, and basis trading strategies.
On-Chain Perpetuals via OKX DEX
OKX has a built-in DEX accessible from the main interface. You can trade on-chain perpetuals on networks like Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base without ever leaving the app. No separate wallet setup needed — the OKX wallet handles both CEX and DEX.
Most Extensive Backtesting for Bots
OKX’s trading bots (grid, signal-based, DCA, arbitrage) come with market-wide backtesting that goes back 3+ years. You can test strategies across multiple market cycles before deploying real capital — much deeper than Bybit’s bot backtesting.
500+ Futures Pairs — Widest Selection
OKX lists more futures contracts than any other major exchange. Major cryptos, emerging DeFi tokens, and even some meme coins with USDT-settled perpetuals. For altcoin traders, OKX is often the only exchange with the exact pair you need.

Head-to-head on the 10 metrics that matter most for futures traders.
Who Should Use OKX Futures?
OKX Futures is ideal for...
- Altcoin futures traders: 500+ pairs — OKX often has futures for new tokens weeks before Bybit lists them
- DeFi-native traders: On-chain perps via OKX DEX without leaving the main interface — CEX + DEX in one account
- Market order traders: 0.050% taker fee is 9% cheaper than Bybit’s 0.055%. Savings compound significantly for active traders
- Spread / arbitrage traders: Only major exchange with a native spread trading product for basis and calendar strategies
- Bot traders: Best-in-class backtesting depth for grid, DCA, and signal bots
Consider alternatives if...
- Copy trading is your priority: Bybit has 100,000+ providers vs OKX’s ~10,000. No comparison — Bybit wins by a large margin.
- You’re a complete beginner: OKX’s interface has more options and can overwhelm new traders. Bybit is cleaner and better-documented for beginners.
- You want the deepest options liquidity: Deribit dominates crypto options with tighter spreads. OKX options exist but are less liquid than Deribit for BTC/ETH.
- US-based traders: OKX restricts US residents. Consider Kraken Futures or Coinbase Advanced Trade.
Ron's Recommendation
I use OKX as my second account for altcoin futures — when I want to trade a smaller altcoin that isn't on Bybit yet, OKX usually has it. For BTC/ETH perpetuals and copy trading, I still prefer Bybit. The two platforms complement each other well for active traders.
