How to Use This Profit Calculator
4 steps to calculate your exact net P&L on any crypto futures trade.
Select exchange & order type
Choose your exchange to load the correct maker/taker fee rates. Use maker (limit orders) to save significantly on fees — Bybit maker is 0.02% vs 0.055% taker.
Set direction & leverage
Long = profit when price rises. Short = profit when price falls. Leverage multiplies both your gains and losses. 10x leverage means a 10% move = ~100% ROE.
Enter entry, exit & margin
Entry is your fill price. Exit is your target or actual close price. Margin is the collateral you post — NOT your total account balance.
Add funding rate (optional)
Enter how long you plan to hold and the current funding rate. This shows the true cost of holding a leveraged position overnight or for multiple days.
Crypto Futures P&L Formula Explained
P&L Calculation Formula
Quantity (contracts):
Qty = (Margin × Leverage) ÷ Entry Price
Gross P&L:
Long: (Exit − Entry) × Qty
Short: (Entry − Exit) × Qty
Total Fees:
Fees = (Entry × Qty × FeeRate) + (Exit × Qty × FeeRate)
Net P&L:
Net = Gross P&L − Fees − Funding Costs
ROE = Net P&L ÷ Margin × 100%
Long 10x — BTC $95K → $100K
Short 20x — ETH $3,500 → $3,200
Long 50x — BTC $95K → $93K
4 Ways to Maximize Your Net Profit
Fees and funding can silently eat 10–30% of your gross P&L. Here's how to minimize them.
Use limit orders (maker)
Bybit maker fee is 0.020% vs 0.055% taker. On a $10,000 position, that saves $3.50 per round trip — adds up fast if you trade daily.
Watch funding rate timing
Funding is charged at 00:00, 08:00, 16:00 UTC. Close your position 1 minute before these times to avoid paying the next interval.
MEXC has 0% maker fees
MEXC charges 0% maker fee on futures — the cheapest in the market. Ideal for high-frequency traders who always use limit orders.
Break-even is higher than entry
Due to fees, your break-even price is always above entry (for longs). At 0.055% taker, you need a 0.11% move just to cover fees before profit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate profit on crypto futures?
Crypto futures profit = (Exit Price − Entry Price) × Quantity for longs, or (Entry Price − Exit Price) × Quantity for shorts. Quantity = (Margin × Leverage) ÷ Entry Price. Then subtract entry fee, exit fee, and funding costs to get net P&L.
What is ROE in crypto futures trading?
ROE (Return on Equity) = Net P&L ÷ Margin × 100%. It measures how much you earned relative to the capital you actually posted. A 10% price move with 10× leverage gives ~100% ROE before fees — but fees and funding reduce this.
What is break-even price in futures trading?
Break-even price is the exit price at which your net P&L equals zero after all fees and funding costs. For a long: Break-even = Entry + (2 × Entry × Fee Rate) + (Funding Cost ÷ Qty). You must exit above this price to make a profit.
How does funding rate affect futures profit?
Funding rates are paid every 8 hours. If the rate is 0.01% and you hold a $10,000 long for 24 hours (3 intervals), you pay $3 in funding. Over multiple days at high leverage, funding can significantly erode profits or turn a winning trade into a loss.
Which exchange has the lowest futures trading fees?
MEXC has 0% maker fees on futures — the lowest in the market. Bybit and Binance both charge 0.020% maker / 0.050–0.055% taker. Deribit charges −0.010% maker (you earn a rebate) and 0.050% taker for options.
